TLS Favourites | 3 Best Brunch Spots With Splendid Decor
Brunch has become a much loved and popular meal amongst discerning diners and has achieved fashionable status with the hip and trendy. More and more diners are making the decision to breakfast or brunch in venues which present their offerings in beautiful and inspiring surroundings. Having tried brunch at various restaurants in the central SW areas, I share with you my favourite three breakfast/brunch venues with fabulous interiors.
No 11 Pimlico Road No.11 Pimlico Road LondonSW1W 8NA
What was once the traditional gastro-pub The Ebury is now the very trendy and chic restaurant & bar, No. 11 Pimlico Road. The beautiful décor proudly presents a union of mid-century and Scandinavian furniture, with tables in slate and chairs in neutral tones – these are contrasted with bright solid textiles or striped fabrics. The lighting is especially eye-catching; weaver nest shaped pendants drop down from the ceiling, producing a warm welcoming glow, whilst industrial style brass shades hover over the bar.
I enjoy a beautifully presented and incredibly tasty and satisfying breakfast of No. 11’s take on Eggs Royale – I love that it’s accompanied by slices of ripe and flavourful avocado (my favourite!). My guest has the Crushed Avocado & Feta on sourdough toast, which doesn’t sound substantial on paper, but is in fact a more than ample portion and a very piquant choice. No. 11 also does great coffees (from Caravan) and excellent breakfast cocktails – their bloody Mary is especially good!
Aubaine 260-262 Brompton Road, London. SW3 2AS
Warm sunny days are when Aubaine on Brompton Road is at its finest. The glass frontage opens up, allowing guests to spill out onto the street and enjoy French cuisine al fresco. French shabby chic is apparent in the beautifully designed interior, with warmth emanating from painted wood in whites, and trendy greys that reign throughout and Parisian glamour is proudly present in the form of beautifully crafted baroque style chairs. Late on a Saturday morning, Aubaine is bursting with guests, but the service is excellent throughout.
I start with the Tartare de Saumon, served with pink grapefruit – it’s perfectly seasoned and simply delicious, and I savour every bit of it. My sweet tooth has me hankering for the Pain Perdu et Myrtilles next and when it arrives, I wish I’d requested a small portion. My guest orders the same and we’re both challenged by the size of the dish. It’s not the finest Pain Perdu I’ve tasted, though it could easily rise in esteem, with a little more maple syrup and a liberal scattering blueberries. Coffee at Aubaine is a little disappointing, especially as I’ve heard such good things. On our way out, we’re seduced by the abundant and inviting bakery counter and after contemplating the vast array of breads, pastries and cakes, I leave with an Aubaine almond crossiant. I’ve tasted some incredibly tasty almond croissant, but Aubaine’s offering trumps them all – it is pastry heaven!

Apero 2 Harrington Road, London SW7 3ER
Located in the basement of South Kensington’s Ampersand Hotel, Apero boasts super hip interior design. Dark mid-century style furniture and wooden floors are offset by white-washed walls, gleaming tiles and the eye-capturing industrial style brass and glass lighting throughout creates a warm intimate ambience. Design lovers will rejoice at this expertly styled and beautifully decorated restaurant. The super chic interiors have me wondering about the quality of service, as often, trendy SW London restaurants produce distinctly snooty service, but the service at Apero is top knotch!
The Turkish Style Eggs jump out at me from the menu; I’m a huge fan of Kopapa’s version of the dis and am curious to experience Apero’s take. Sadly, Apero’s Turkish eggs do not live up to my expectations – they’re rather bland in comparison to Kopapa’s and I’m left unsatisfied The restaurant enjoys a little redemption though as their coffee is spot on! My flat white is of the perfect strength, texture and flavor and goes really well with Apero’s chocolate brownie.
