THE DECOREX INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS OF 2018
As part of the team discovered the wonders of Focus/18 the rest of us headed to Syon Park to explore the unparalleled opportunity for interior design professionals, industry tastemakers and design enthusiasts to uncover over 400 international exhibitors. There was much to see and love at Decorex and these are our highlights.
Unlike the Design Centre at Chelsea Harbour, Decorex takes place in an area much further afield from London’s design district so we’re ecstatic to hear that next year Decorex will take place in Olympia, just after the end of 100% Design.
Decorex never fails to impress with it’s fine selection of luxury interiors brands. We took this opportunity to visit some of our partners, update them on our future developments and enjoy their pieces in the flesh.
Some of the brands we met included Rue Monsieur Paris, Boca do Lobo, Munna, & Dare Studio
Discovering new brands is always a must at any furniture show. We were particularly impressed with Green Apple, a new Portuguese brand with fun and drama injected into every piece. We loved this circular bar cabinet that opens up to reveal golden interiors and plenty of space for your designer glassware. And the hashtag signs on this curious chair had us smiling.
Believe it or not Plastic was named Material of the Year at this year’s London Design Festival, how is this the case? Our awareness of the throw away culture we’re moving away from means artists, designers and makers across the globe are looking at plastic as a new opportunity to create responsible design. As part of the “Future Heritage” collection at Decorex we came across James Shaw’s Plastic Baroque collection. It’s raw, and some may think unfinished, but its creativity goes beyond that. These pieces are made with a plastic extruding gun (that he made), which turns waste plastic into furniture for the home. What do you think?
In the past Decorex has featured a beautiful champagne bar, and this year they took it one step further and it was definitely one of our highlights. Lambart & Browne, the team behind Loulou’s in Dover Street, designed this year’s beauty and was given as a starting point the expression “bon viveur"—one who lives well—their interpretation was contemporary British style, classic and eclectic. The botanically infused drinks served were the perfect end to our day, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store next year.
Next week, we’ll be giving you a run through 100% Design and Design Junction. Sign up to our mailing list and be the first to hear about it!
