Interior Design for Valentine’s Day

It’s Valentine’s Day! Or Galentine’s Day! We like to celebrate both because friendship is just another form of love.  Either way, it seemed fitting to talk about the loveseat– the piece of furniture dedicated to love.

The loveseat is a two-seater sofa, which in the 17thcentury, made its first appearance in the furniture scene. However, it was not for the purpose of romance as you would imagine. In the 17thcentury, fashion consisted of large skirts with underwiring which made it difficult for sitting comfortably, but with the invention of a loveseat women had a place to lounge. As fashion evolved and society changed, the love seat developed into a piece of furniture that signified status, wealth and a seat for two.

As the love seat was observed to accommodate more than one person, couples began to make most of this and take advantage of the invention. Couples were able to sit relatively close to one another and share intimate moments. Thus, the term ‘love seat’ had a meaning.

Today, love seats are very popular and this time of year is a great way to spend cuddled up with loved ones. Here at The Longest Stay, we believe Valentine’s day isn’t for the conventional couple, it goes beyond that! It’s not just about having a partner; this day is to celebrate love of your family and friends too. We aren’t into traditional thinking, we pride ourselves on our ability to be progressive and chic.

We have an amazing range of glasswareand tablewarewhich would be perfect for Valentine’s day, have a glass of wine and share delightful nibbles with an intimate group of friends.

If you’re one for going out we’ve selected a couple of ideas that caught our eye. Flower arranging has become a go-to activity, and the perfect experience to share with friends. The London Flower Schooloffers inspirational floristry courses throughout the year.

We’re glad we live in a time where our wardrobe no longer dictates the shape and size of our furniture. And today, we opt pieces because we love how special they feel in our living room. For instance, Ottiu’s red satin love seatmesmerises with its sinuous curves and lustre. Whilst, Munna’s Be Mineloveseat takes on the traditional chesterfield button back upholstery and the Lipsticktwo-seat sofa (a little lager than a love seat, but equally loving) encapsulates art deco style to a T.
