Milan Design Week: At Night
We’ve arrived to the final post of our three part series of Milan Design Week (here’s part one and part two). The buzzing city of Milan is full of events not only for daytime perusing but also at night. We let our hair down, touch up with a bit of red lipstick and our favourite (still comfortable) heels to visit some of the trendiest places in town.
Here’s a round up of our favourites…
To the Munna and Back
Portuguese brand Munna celebrated their 10 year anniversary with an evening of glamour, fantasy and joy. Just like their brand. It was like entering a fantasy world complete with a carrousel, a giant Fringes armchair, and even cotton candy!
Little Monsters
Lasvit’s vision went beyond beautiful lighting pieces with an immersive cabaret theatre experience. It was sensual, delicate and enticing. Max Velcovsky’s totem made of dozens of blinking TV screens made quite the surreal statement as you walked into the tiny theatre. The monstrously beautiful creations commissioned by the Czech glass manufacturer were exhibited with child-like delight at Teatro Gerolamo, and it’s no surprise they won the prestigious Milano Design Award this year at Salone del Mobile.
Moroso & Cassina
A display of colour, textures and music enveloped the evening at the showrooms of these two Italian powerhouses. Moroso displayed a cacophony of hues that only hit dizzying points of colour explosion when Bethan Wood made an appearance with her signature style. Over at Cassina we fell involve with Gaetano Pesce’s armchairs from 1987 that sit at the base of the new spiral staircase in their showroom. Part of the renovation and extension designed by the one and only Patricia Urquiola.
Late Night Dining
We ended the night at The Diner by David Rockwell + Surface with 2x4, recreation of an American-Style diner in a repurposed vault underneath Milan’s railway tracks and arguably one of the highlights of Ventura Centrale. The classic Emeco chairs caught our eye from the get go, as well as, the neon lighting.
Open-air garden
On our last night out we ended by chance in this lovely garden, which was the perfect spot to take in all that this fabulous week has to offer and reflect upon next years event. Will you join us?
