Gloster first started making furniture over fifty years ago in West Africa for local market consumption. With an ethical conscience behind, they started using discarded branches and tree stumps that would otherwise have been burnt, to make the smaller components. In 1981, they started exporting furniture all around the world and moved production to Indonesia to have access to teak plantations only available there. Today, Gloster is one of the ultimate outdoor furniture British brands. German designer Mathias Hoffmann set up his own design studio in 1980. While specializing in product design, Hoffman also worked in the fields of retail, international fair booth design, new product development and architectural design. He is best known for his numerous upholstered furniture, beds, chairs and tables for companies such as De Sede, Lloyd / Flanders, Maximilian and Gloster.
The inspiration behind the Asta collection was to mix materials and shapes to create stunning outdoor furniture pieces. The Asta Stacking Armchair flaunts a sleek stainless steel frame combined with a gently curved backrest that allows for comfort without neglecting style. Like other Gloster products, this chair is incredibly durable due to its resilient materials and is designed to stand the test of time.
