Founded in 2005 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to create a focal point for women artists from the Gulf, Lahd Gallery soon became a well-known exhibition space representing exclusively MENASA (Middle East, North Africa, South Asia) contemporary art throughout the last decade. Artists are exposed to an international market using an online e-gallery, as well as yearly international pop venues, fairs and events all over the world. Patrick Altes uses his own experiences of diaspora and personal evolution to create emotionally striking visual art. Altes uses a range of paint and collage mediums to produce a form of genetic mapping which lays bare his difficult background. Through his art, he comments on social and cultural climates, as well as producing anthropological references. The result is art with stunning revelation and the artist’s own self-examination.

Through story telling, Altes has created a piece with raw feelings of alienation and longing. This emotion pouring from the canvas, combined with the delicate paint strokes in soft hues, make a truly eye catching and inspiring piece.
