Cabinetmaker Emile Moissonnier began his workshop in 1885 in France. Moissonnier’s sons Gabriel and Paul grew up in the midst of wood shavings, half-finished sculptures and the smell of wax. They nurtured the dream of recreating their father's workshop on an industrial scale so as to make the company known outside the confines of their native Bresse. In 1946 the two sons took charge of the Moissonnier factory that was built. By the 60's, Moissonnier was producing items for prestigious New York retailer Bloomingdales.
