Back to the future

The Soho House group has worked under the adage that if something ain’t broke, they shouldn’t have to fix it. Originating in London, their high end members clubs have sprung up everywhere from Miami to Mumbai, all following their signature look of laidback, 1950s glamour. Until now. Their latest offering, Little House in London’s Mayfair, has plumbed a slightly less recent past to bring the vibe bang up to date, taking the Art Deco period of the 1930s as its inspiration. Gilt mirrors in sea shell-like shapes, opulent and sumptuous furniture, lamps with long stems and shades that fan out in that familiar art deco arc, it’s a look that once again is starting to ripple out into peoples’ homes. Why? Because it speaks of luxury, obvious and inviting, turning your home into somewhere you want to sink into, indulge yourself in. So fill a drinks cabinet with cocktail glasses, hang a cluster of pendant shades to bounce the light off your high gloss finshes and gold-edged accessories, go for curvy and dome-like silhouettes. Above all, think glamour. It’s the old way with a very modern feel.
