Meet The Maker

The Longest Stay’s slate products are made of layer upon layer of fine-grained, foliated rock that is fused together over time under low heat and huge pressure. Each individual slate piece is made in Scotland where they are hand-cut to fit with the contemporary designs. By striking the raw slate correctly a skilled craftsman can split the layers to create a flat surface with the detailed “riven” edge surround. Traditional methods are used of each piece of slate where they are selected, cut, shaped, felted, oiled and inspected before packing.
